Why the question URL is so weird?

Can't it have some good meaningful stuff instead of this long number?

Generally every question and answer gets an id and is stored in a database. Storing an integer may take less space and is faster to index than a long subject that may eventually be changed later.

So it is about speed and space. Generally.
